Unlocking Opportunities & Breaking Barriers

Lack of visibility of the care economy (demand and supply gaps of care, availability of care where needed for the population, size & composition of the care economy, spends and trends) across countries (like India where women face a 7 - 8X higher care burden than men), is preventing among others,
1) development of appropriate fiscal & non fiscal policy environment
2) promotion of private sector solutions, flow of investments & job creation in the care economy
3) improvement in workforce participation & closing the gender gap in the workplace & marketplace

Visualising the Care Economy

Configuring strong responsive equitable care systems

Care is complex. But Care is also essential and lies at the core of all societies and economies. It impacts billions of people every day, at home, at work, in transit both as givers and receivers of care with more than 2 billion people serving as caregivers, primarily women & unpaid. Demographic transitions across the globe is expected to accelerate the need for care and unlock millions of jobs. Yet the economy remains invisible, hidden!

What are the pathways to visualise the care economy?

Brijdd has identified three pathways to facilitate visualisation of the care economy. This work is at a very early stage currently. Resources and insights will be published and shared with partners and relevant stakeholders as they become available.

Care Gap Assessment Tools

Closing care gaps critical to shaping an equitable care economy. Geo-referenced care maps are foundational in identifying these gaps. At Brijdd, we are currently developing these care maps to help close the care policy gap and the care access gap

Sizing the Care Economy in India & other emerging economies in Asia and Africa

Estimating size & composition of care economy (country-wise), spends and trends - to drive investment, facilitate advocacy & policy design

Care Financing Landscape

Identifying available & potential financial instruments, developing the taxonomy for care affordability solutions to help position care as a public good
